Washington State advances bill to ban flavored e-cigarettes

Washington state promotes the ban on flavored vapes bill, banning the sale of products marketed with words such as “cool” and “cold” and entertainment atomizing equipment with interactive functions and requiring retailers to post a ban sign, violators will be punished.

According to Mynorthwest, the Consumer Protection and Commerce Committee of the Washington State House of Representatives recently approved House Bill 1203, which proposes a statewide ban on flavored e-cigarette products.

The bill has now been moved to the House Ways and Means Committee for further consideration. Its lead sponsor, Rep. Christine Reeves (D-Federal Way), said during the vote that it needs further refinement.

House Bill 1203 proposes to ban the sale, display, and advertising of flavored tobacco, nicotine, and vaping products, including those marketed as “cool,” “cool,” “cold,” or “fresh.” In addition, the bill also targets so-called “recreational vaping products,” which include vaping devices with interactive features such as music or video displays. The bill also requires the Department of Health to lead a statewide public awareness campaign to educate the public about the risks of flavored nicotine products. In addition, retailers must post clear signs informing customers of the ban, and violators will face stiff penalties from the Liquor and Cannabis Commission.
