According to a recent report by Better Retailing, the ban on single-use vapes in the UK will come into effect on June 1, and major wholesalers have set a stop date in advance, causing retailers to scramble to snap up the remaining stock.
A spokesperson for UK distributor Nisa said the company will no longer distribute single-use vapes to retailers after the first week of May. Nisa works with suppliers to provide transition support, and the company will advise retailers on alternative product lines. To ensure compliance ahead of the June deadline, Nisa has provided advice and support to retailers, as well as a guide for retailers suggesting in-store inventory management processes.
In addition, Better Retailing has learned that Booker plans to stop selling to retailers in March or April. The wholesaler is working closely with various suppliers to sell out the remaining products before the new restrictions.
Spar’s five regional wholesalers are conducting a thorough review of all disposable vape products in preparation for the regulations that will come into effect on June 1, and the comprehensive support and guidance provided by the industry trade body has been shared with all stores to help smooth the transition and ensure compliance with the new regulations.
A spokesman for Parfetts said the company would announce a support program in the coming weeks.
Nisa, Booker, Spar, and Parfetts are all major wholesale distributors in the UK.
