UK Scotland: ban on disposable vapes delayed until June next year

The Scottish government has announced it will delay a single-use vape ban until June next year to bring it into line with the rest of the UK. On the 22nd and 24th of this month. The governments of Wales and England stated on their official websites, saying that single-use vapes will be banned by June 2025.

UK Scotland: ban on disposable vapes delayed until June next year

According to the BBC on October 25. Scotland announced that the ban on single-use vapes will be delayed by two months until June next year, to be in line with the rest of the UK.

The UK Parliament planned to completely ban the sale of disposable vape products from June 1 last year, while the Scottish Parliament planned to take effect on April 1 of the law regulation will adjust the date. Neil Gray, the Scottish Health Secretary, announced that the effective date would now be adjusted to achieve harmonization across the country.

  • “The Scottish Government is the first in the UK to commit to taking action on single-use vapes.”
  • “Our four regions work closely together to ensure that the ban on the sale and supply of single-use vapes is consistent so that we can provide certainty to businesses and consumers.”

New UK regulations offer no transition period for businesses

A report published by the Scottish government last year showed that 22 percent of minors – about 78,000 people – use vapes. With more young people using vapes than smokers. However, the new laws and regulations in the UK do not provide a transition period for users, and retailers need to clear their disposable vape stocks before the deadline.

The move has also raised concerns from the industry, which has warned that it could lead to an increase in illegal sales.

Mary Creagh, the UK’s circular economy minister, said single-use vapes were “hugely wasteful and damaging our cities”.

  • “This is the first step in a circular economy. In this economy, we will use resources for the long term, reduce waste, accelerate progress towards net zero emissions, and create thousands of jobs across the country.”

The measure is unrelated to the government’s plan to phase out smoking by banning the sale of tobacco to birth groups after January 2009. A bill is expected to be submitted to the court before Christmas.
