The U.S. House of Representatives proposed abolishing Tobacco, Alcohol, Guns, and Explosives (ATF), which violates the Second Amendment rights of U.S. citizens, without elaborating on the process and subsequent duties.
According to CBS News U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert on Jan. 10, announced that she and Eric Burleson, Congressmen. Eric Burlison co-sponsored a bill to abolish the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
The ATF is a federal criminal law enforcement agency that enforces alcohol, tobacco, firearms, explosives, and arson and often collaborates with federal, state, local, and international law enforcement agencies. Its responsibilities include protecting the public from violent and terrorist organizations and preventing the illicit use and trafficking of firearms, explosives, alcohol and cigarette commodities.
In a statement Thursday, Boebert argued that the ATF violated the “Second Amendment” rights of U.S. citizens by ensuring their right to keep and bear arms.
- “The ATF should be repealed to prevent them from ultimately repealing our Second Amendment.”
Burlison added,
- “The ATF embodies the so-called ‘deep State’ bureaucracy’s belief that it can violate constitutional freedoms without consequence. If this institution cannot fulfill its duty to serve the people within the framework of the Constitution, then it has no place in our government.”
The proposal does not detail how the repeal process would work. Asked whether other government agencies would carry out ATF’s responsibilities in investigating bombings, terrorism, violent crime and trafficking, Boebert said, “Under President Trump and the DOGE plan, we will have the most efficient government and eliminate the need for a misleading and unconstitutional agency like the ATF.” And I am confident that with reformers like Kash Patel at the helm of our agencies at the FBI and other America First leaders, the American people will be safer than ever.”
