This marks a new stage in the regulation of gas quality approved by the Milan City Council in 2020. The new rules require smoking to be strictly prohibited in all public or public outdoor areas unless a distance of 10 meters is maintained from others.
According to Milan’s Air and Climate Plan, the ban, which comes into effect in 2021, will be extended to specific areas such as public transport sites, parks, and greenery. From January 1, 2025, the city says the ban will be further extended to all public or public outdoor areas, including streets and segregated areas beyond 10 meters.
The ban will only target tobacco products, with vapes still allowed.
Italian teenager charged with using vapes on public transportation found not guilty in court
Sig magazine reported on Dec 27 that the Youth Court of Taranto, Italy, ruled in a recent decision that the use of vapes on public transportation is not a crime. The ruling was enforced by Judge Paola Morelli (Paola Morelli) in an incident that occurred on a bus at the end of November last year.
The incident stemmed from two young men using vapes on a bus, which the driver had convinced them to do, but they continued to use them as normal. The driver then called the police and all passengers were forced to get off the bus and transfer to another vehicle. The two teens were charged with harassment and disruption of public service.
Attorneys Gianluca Sebastio Daniele Lombardi successfully defended them. They pointed out that since the bus company did not prohibit the use of vapes on the bus, this behavior and its consequences do not constitute a crime. Attorney Sebastiao emphasized that vapes are tobacco-free devices and that the two minors were not aggressive at the time of the incident, but followed instructions. At the same time, they were attacked and defamed on the Internet, so they are considering claiming damages.
