A business in Wales, UK has been warned
A total of two stores were inspected this time, and 67 disposable vapes were found. After communicating with the store owners, these stores voluntarily handed over the vapes for destruction.
According to the “Environmental Protection (Single-Use vapes) (Wales) Regulations 2024”, the criteria for non-compliance have been clearly defined. A single-use vape refers to a product that is not designed or intended for reuse, including any vape that cannot be filled with e-liquid, cannot be charged, or both.
If the battery of a vape cannot be charged or the coil cannot be purchased separately and easily replaced, then this vape is not regarded as rechargeable.
The coil is a part of the heating element used for atomizing the e-liquid. For reusable vapes, users may be able to directly remove and replace the coil, or remove and replace the cartridge or mouthpiece that contains the coil.
Environmental protection regulations
If a vape has a disposable container, such as a pre-filled cartridge that cannot be purchased or replaced separately, and the oil tank or cartridge cannot be refilled, then this vape is not considered to be refillable.
These vapes will be safely destroyed by environmental protection regulations. The relevant stores will receive warning letters informing them that if they are found to possess or intend to sell disposable vapes again in the future, more formal actions will be taken (including fixed fines notices, and possibly even prosecution).
Cen Phillips, a cabinet member of the Natural, Tourism and Well-being Affairs Committee of the Nisutalbertport City Council in the UK, said:
- “The ban on the sale of disposable vapes is aimed at protecting the public and the environment. This ban has been widely publicized. Disposable vapes are a serious issue because they contain harmful substances that are difficult to handle safely, and they are often purchased by minors under the age of 18.”
