The Russian court in Voronezh ruled to protect public health by banning online distribution of illegal tobacco sales.
Core Watch:
- Russia’s Voronezh regional health department discovered an illegal internet tobacco sales website.
- The site was open to all users, including minors, without passwords or restrictions.
- Federal law prohibits online tobacco sales to protect public health.
- The Voronezh court found that the dissemination of such information is prohibited in Russia, and the judgment has been enforced.
As Voronezh News reported on July 14. Russia’s Voronezh Region’s Consumer Rights Supervisory Authority discovered a website on the Internet that advertised the remote sale of tobacco products without restrictions. At the time of the review, the site was accessible to all users, including minors, without requiring registration or passwords, and without any restrictions on copying information.
This behavior violates federal law relating to the protection of citizens from the effects of tobacco smoke. The regulation explicitly prohibits the remote sale of cigarettes and other tobacco products.
The Oversight Service has filed a lawsuit with the Soviet District Court in Voronezh. The court ruled that the dissemination of information on the site was prohibited in Russia. The decision has taken effect and is being implemented.
