The Polish Health Ministry plans to ban the sale of various vapes and nicotine packs to minors and the use of vape brands in schools, children’s playgrounds, and other places. The bill establishes a six-month transition period.
According to Bankier on January 14, Poland’s Ministry of Health proposed a bill that plans to ban the sale of all types of vapes to people under the age of 18, ban the use of vape brands in schools and children’s playgrounds, including those that do not contain nicotine.
The bill proposes to amend the Health Protection Act to avoid the negative effects of using cigarettes and their products. The specific content includes prohibiting the sale of any type of vape and backup oil to minors, regardless of whether the products contain nicotine.
In addition, the bill also plans to change the concept of “vapes”, making it illegal to use nicotine-free vapes in public places such as schools, kindergartens, public transportation websites and children’s amusement parks. Currently, nicotine vapes are banned in these places.
The proposal also recommends that the sale of nicotine packs to minors be banned in medical institutions, schools, education and training institutions, sports and entertainment venues, vending machines, and self-service systems. The bill also bans the remote sale of nicotine packs, similar to the regulations governing the sale of smokeless tobacco products.
The bill plans to set a six-month transition period, and the revised bill will come into effect 14 days after the announcement.
According to the website of the Polish Government’s Legislative Center, the government will also consider another proposal from the Ministry of Health to ban the sale of heated tobacco products with certain fragrances. The bill updates the definition of “heated tobacco products.”
