The Peruvian Congress banned the sale of vapes to minors, and passed the Consumption Control Act of tobacco and tar products, increasing the health warning area of tobacco packaging to 70%. The bill aims to reduce the health impact of tobacco consumption, especially to protect minors.
According to El Comercio, the plenary of the Peruvian Congress voted for the first time with 73 votes in favor, 13 votes against, and 8 abstentions to pass the 3412th vote related to the control of the consumption of tobacco and tobacco tar products. Draft laws 3437 and 3732.
The bill explicitly prohibits the sale of e-cigarettes or vaping devices to minors and strictly controls the advertising of such products. In addition, health warnings on tobacco packaging will be increased from 50 percent to 70 percent of the original coverage area, and vape packaging will also have to include health warnings.
