The New Zealand government plans to provide free vape starter kits and ongoing smoking cessation service support to help adults quit smoking and achieve the 2025 smoke-free target.
According to ODT on December 31, the New Zealand government plans to provide vape starter kits to national smoking cessation services from next week to help adults quit smoking.
New Zealand’s Deputy Health Minister, Casey Costello, said clients will receive a monthly vape device and a month’s supply of vape bombs for three months, as well as ongoing support from smoking cessation services. She noted that the kits will be provided free of charge to adults who smoke.
Mr Costello said New Zealand needed to reinvigorate its smoking cessation efforts and target the right people if the country was to reduce smoking rates to below 5 percent by the end of next year and meet its 2025 smoke-free target.
- “Vapes have played a key role in reducing smoking rates and the government is supporting adults to switch to vapes as they are much less harmful than smoking.”
- “Smokers who use smoking cessation services are four times more likely to quit than those without supporters successfully.”
