Starting in 2026, Moldova will ban smoking in public places, and the use of vapes, and plans to ban the sale of flavored tobacco.
As Infotag recently reported, the Republic of Moldova will ban smoking in public places.
Alla Nemerenco, Minister of Health Alla Nemerenco “Smoking in public places such as parks, terraces, public transportation stations, etc. will be prohibited,” a ban that also applies to vapes.
On Thursday night (25), the minister said on the Jurnal TV program that “the relevant bill has passed public consultation and is on the government’s agenda.”
The minister emphasized that “all types of tobacco are restricted because heated tobacco is as harmful as regular tobacco.”
“The claim that vapes and heated cigarettes are not as harmful is false. The law says that no doctor can promote vapes. It’s prohibited and the doctor could lose his or her medical license. Additionally, flavored tobacco attracts customers. The flavors of lemon and mint are appealing and people may smoke more, which is more dangerous.”
According to the minister, from 2026, the law will introduce a uniform no-smoking sign banning the sale of flavored tobacco.
“According to our data, in Moldova, the use of vapes by young people has improved, and the number of teenagers absorbing these products is increasing. But secondhand smoke inhalation also leads to high mortality rates. Our task is to form correct social behavior. Smokers are only a few steps away from others. We will place prohibition signs wherever we can. If so far the ban only applies to regular tobacco, it also applies to vape brands.”
