Mexico has announced that it is pushing for legal changes to ban vapes, which are expected to be approved this year. She hopes the reforms proposed on February 5th will be implemented, including a ban on vapes.
According to El Universal on October 21, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said that legal changes to ban the use of electronic cigarettes are underway and are expected to be approved within this year.
Speaking at the Mananera del Pueblo, a morning meeting at the National Palace,
- “The approval is in progress and we hope that all the reforms proposed on February 5 this year will be implemented.”
She explained that among those reforms, electoral reform, which was submitted by former President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, failed to pass in the committee, but some of the topics are still under consideration. The changes do not alter the nature of the original proposal, with the vape ban particularly prominent.
Claudia noted that in order to advance this important reform, she plans to invite the Minister of Health to participate in the discussion.
- “Regarding the vape reform program, this reform must be passed. If it’s okay with you, we can invite the Minister of Health. At the ‘morning press conference’ starting next month, we will resume our safety report and health report every Tuesday. We are working on a very complete health care and prevention plan.”
In addition, on August 13, the Constitutional and Legal Committee of the Mexican Chamber of Deputies passed a bill banning the production, distribution, sale, and even use of vapes and other vaping-like devices.
