Malaysian Health Minister: Vape ban will be submitted to the cabinet for review
According to a Straits Times report on August 9, Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad said the Ministry of Health will submit the expert committee’s recommendations on banning vapes to the Cabinet once the study is completed.
He said the recommendations will be a key step in implementing the ban.
“We are committed to this cause (banning vapes). It’s no longer a question of ‘if.’ I will submit it to the Cabinet for consideration,” he told reporters.
Dzulkefly said the implementation of the Public Health Smoking Products Control Act 2024 (Act 852) has been effective, with the number of smoking products on the market dropping from 6,824 before the Act’s enactment to 2,794 in June.
“This means only 40.9% remains. Through strict enforcement, I believe we can effectively regulate the sale of cigarettes and vapes. Most importantly, we must protect minors, students, and children from the effects of vapes. For the sake of public health, Act 852 will be strictly enforced to regulate all smoking products, including vapes,” he said.
