In response to a request from Southern California firefighters. American nicotine bag brand “Lucy” has provided nicotine bag products to the front lines of fires for a nominal fee of $1 to support rescue efforts.
According to Newsweek on January 13, Lucy, a brand of nicotine packs, announced that it would help firefighters respond to wildfires in Southern California by preparing to send boxes of nicotine packs to fire stations and distribution centers.
Since last week, firefighters have been working to contain wildfires that have devastated the Los Angeles area, including the Palisades, Eaton, and Hearst fires. The fires have killed at least 24 people and destroyed at least 12,000 buildings. Strong wind gusts from Monday to Wednesday could push the fire south and west, the weather service predicted.
John Coogan, the company’s co-founder, told Newsweek that the company is currently responding to requests for nicotine packs from firefighters on the front lines of the California wildfires.
- “We are certainly willing to help in any way we can. The firefighters’ request for nicotine packs was somewhat unexpected but understandable given the high-pressure environment they faced. If I was on the front line, I would also want to relax for a while.”
Many reports of firefighters’ demand for nicotine packs have been widely circulated on social media, and many people have launched donations to support California firefighters. Coogan said that after someone sent him the post, he contacted the organization and immediately sent boxes of products to fire stations and distribution centers that requested them. He noted that the company ensures legal compliance by charging a nominal $1 and prioritizing unflavored products to comply with California’s law banning flavored nicotine products.
- “There’s some confusion, and I just hope our products get to the adult firefighters who are already using them.”
