Trading Standards Enforcement Findings
January 5, 2026 — According to Hellorayo, Hampshire Trading Standards seized approximately 58,000 counterfeit vapes and tobacco products during enforcement activity over the past year.
Richard Strawson, head of Hampshire Trading Standards, said that enforcement officers frequently encounter vape products disguised with counterfeit branding.
Use of Well-Known Brands to Disguise Counterfeit Products
Strawson stated that counterfeiters often use branding familiar to consumers as a marketing tool. Some products illegally display the logos and branding of well-known beverage companies, despite being counterfeit and unlawfully manufactured.
Inspection and Removal of Illegal Products
He explained that Trading Standards officers conduct in-store inspections of vape products to ensure compliance with legal requirements. During these inspections, officers regularly identify products bearing counterfeit brand logos, which are then removed from the market.
Safety Risks Associated With Counterfeit Vapes
Strawson also highlighted safety concerns linked to counterfeit vaping products. Many devices contain lithium batteries due to their rechargeable design, and when manufacturing standards are poor and production costs are kept low, there is a heightened risk of fire during charging.
