JTI Warehouse in Kyiv Region Destroyed
August 7, 2026
According to a report published by Ukrainska Pravda on August 6, Russian forces attacked the Kyiv region on the evenings of August 4 and 5, affecting storage facilities containing products from Japan Tobacco International (JTI) and Imperial Brands Ukraine.
Both companies confirmed to Ukrainska Pravda that their product inventories were affected.
The information currently available indicates that the incident primarily involved damage to storage facilities and inventory. Neither company has disclosed the full extent of its losses.
JTI stated that its finished goods warehouse in the Kyiv region was destroyed in the attack.
The company said:
- No employees were injured.
- Employee safety remains its top priority.
- The company does not currently expect the incident to affect supplies to retail channels.
JTI has not disclosed the financial value of the losses. However, its statement indicates that the company does not currently anticipate a significant disruption to product availability in the Ukrainian retail market.
Imperial Brands Reports Inventory Losses
Imperial Brands Ukraine said that products stored in warehouses belonging to its distributors and retail partners were affected by the attacks.
The company has not confirmed whether the facilities affected were the same warehouse facilities referred to in JTI’s statement.
Imperial Brands Ukraine CEO Yevhen Kobets said the company’s estimated losses amounted to “tens of millions of Ukrainian hryvnia,” or approximately $100,000.
According to the company, the damage has resulted in short-term adjustments to product supplies in some parts of Kyiv.
Imperial Brands Ukraine has previously experienced significant losses during the war. The company reported even larger losses following a direct attack in 2023.
War Creates Continuing Supply Chain Risks for Tobacco Companies
The latest incident highlights the security risks faced by warehousing and logistics operations in Ukraine as the war continues.
The attacks reportedly affected several other commercial and logistics facilities in the Kyiv region, including:
- NOVUS logistics center
- Two Silpo distribution centers
- Intertop Ukraine logistics warehouse
- Puma product warehouse
- Warehouse operated by a logistics partner of Bosch Ukraine
Some of these commercial facilities were reportedly severely damaged.
For multinational consumer goods companies operating in Ukraine, maintaining a stable supply chain during wartime presents challenges beyond normal logistics management. Companies must account for warehouse security, inventory protection, transportation disruptions, and the need to maintain product availability in retail channels.
JTI and Imperial Brands Assess the Impact
JTI said it does not currently expect the warehouse destruction to affect supplies to retail channels.
Imperial Brands, meanwhile, reported short-term supply adjustments in some locations following the damage to inventory held by distributors and retail partners.
Neither company has released a final assessment of the financial impact.
As the situation in Ukraine continues to evolve, damage to warehouses and logistics infrastructure remains a significant operational risk for international tobacco companies with local manufacturing, distribution, or retail operations.
The latest incident also underscores the importance of supply-chain resilience, alternative distribution arrangements, and contingency planning for companies operating in regions affected by ongoing conflict.
