According to a new evaluation by a research team at an Italian university, vapes are more effective than other methods in helping people quit smoking. The study notes that while the long-term success rate of vapes is only 10-12%, their potential warrants further research and integration into public health policy.
Vapes are more effective than other methods in helping smokers quit smoking, the CoEHAR research team at the University of Catania reported Today, December 5.
The study was published in Drug and Alcohol Dependence. (Drug and Alcohol Dependence,) in the journal, 16 randomized controlled trials (RCTS) were evaluated, including a systematic review of the program.
Rene O’Leary, the lead author of the study, explains,
- “The data we reviewed could integrate harm reduction strategies into public health policies in many countries.” However, the review revealed a key gap in current smoking cessation strategies. The long-term adoption rate of vapes is still very low, only 10-12%, and relapse data has not been fully studied. New treatments and innovative approaches are needed.”
The authors say that while the findings are promising, the study also highlights the need for more rigorous scientific rigor in this area and that this analysis reveals serious reporting errors in many studies.
