In its latest progress report, the FDA said the agency has acted on 186 marketing applications for vape brands covered by the 2022 court directive.
According to recent news from a tobacco reporter, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) marketed major vape brands and completed a review of most of their Petitions to Market Cigarette Merchandise Applications (PMTAs).
In its latest progress report, the FDA said that the agency has put into action 185 of the 186 marketing applications for vape brands covered by the 2022 court order for goods submitted by September 9, 2020, that have significant market share. The manufacturers of these orders have already received either a Market Denial Order (MDO) or an FDA authorization.
According to other sources, the application still under review may belong to Juul. in 2022, the FDA issued a Market Denial Order to Juul but then agreed to further review the application. In June of this year, the FDA lifted the denial order and again conducted a thorough, scientific review of Juul’s product.
In its report, the FDA said the agency has issued more than 18 million denials, more than 67,000 rejections, and about 46,000 market rejection orders, most of which are for canned tobacco oils made by small and medium-sized manufacturers.
