FDA Grants Market Authorization for Four Products
May 6, 2026. According to the official U.S. FDA website, the agency has authorized four Glas vape products for market entry following a review under the Premarket Tobacco Product Application (PMTA) pathway, permitting their sale to adults aged 21 and older. The authorized products include Classic Menthol, Fresh Menthol, Gold, and Sapphire Pod; each contains 50 mg/mL of tobacco-derived nicotine.
First Approval of Non-Tobacco, Non-Menthol Flavors
Additionally, according to the Associated Press, the “Gold” variant corresponds to a “Mango” flavor, while “Sapphire” corresponds to a “Blueberry” flavor. This marks the first time the FDA has authorized vape products featuring flavors other than tobacco or menthol.
Age Verification and Anti-Minor Access Measures
The FDA’s review determined that the Glas vape devices—when combined with age verification protocols and market restrictions—can effectively prevent use by minors.
Users are required to verify their age using a government-issued ID and pair the device with a smartphone; the device cannot be used unless it is paired with a phone.
The accompanying application also conducts random biometric checks to verify the user’s identity.
Adults Able to Use Devices, Minors Restricted
The review indicated that the vast majority of adults aged 21 and older were able to successfully complete the age verification process and found the device’s instructions and software interface to be user-friendly; conversely, minors and young adults were unable to use the devices.
Advertising Restrictions to Limit Youth Exposure
The FDA requires companies to ensure that their advertising, marketing, and promotional activities are directed exclusively toward adults aged 21 and older, and to track, measure, and report on the effectiveness of these measures as well as audience demographic data.
Ongoing FDA Oversight and Compliance Enforcement
The FDA states that should it determine a company is non-compliant with regulations, it will take appropriate action, including the suspension or revocation of product authorizations.
Authorization Limited to Specific Products Only
The authorization applies solely to the four Glas products specified above and does not extend to any other products.
FDA Reiterates Public Health Warning
The FDA reiterates that no tobacco product is safe; individuals who do not currently use tobacco products should not start, and tobacco products must not be used by minors.
