Kris Doyle – British inventor (Kris Doyle) by recycling 35 ELFBAR brands of discarded disposable vapes. The reuse potential of discarded vape batteries successfully produced around 20,000 mAh rechargeable treasure for the public.
According to Ixbt September 8, British inventor Kris Doyle rechargeable treasure made from 35 discarded disposable vapes.
The enthusiast collected more than 200 discarded vapes on the streets and at music festivals to show the potential value of these devices.
It is estimated that in the UK alone, around 5 million of these devices are discarded every week, or 260 million in a year – enough to produce batteries for 5,000 electric cars or 1.3 million e-bikes.
Also, according to Discovery Research Group, 40.8 million vapes were sold in Russia in 2023, at least a quarter of which were disposable, meaning millions of lithium-ion batteries are discarded every year.
A British inventor has created a functional rechargeable battery made up of discarded vape batteries to draw public attention to the problem. In his project, he used 35 disposable vape ELFBAR batteries.
The production process consists of several steps:
- Removing the batteries from the vape case and mounting them in a 3D-printed holder;
- Developing and installing a specialized circuit board for connecting the battery components;
- Using another specialized circuit board to balance the voltage between the batteries;
- Fast charging module connected to a USB port;
- The casing was made using a 3D printer.
The results show that Chris has manufactured a rechargeable battery of about 20,000 mAh. The device supports up to 100 watts of fast-charging technology and is equipped with several different types of ports to quickly charge smartphones and even power laptops.
Chris emphasized that his project simply demonstrates the potential reuse value of discarded vapes.
- He said, “Every time we discard five vapes, we’re discarding an almost brand-new iPhone 15 battery.”
Now, Chris is working on a new rechargeable battery designed to hold all the components in a more compact design. Additionally, he plans to build an e-bike battery using about 100 higher-capacity cells.
