E-liquid prices to rise 267%

British Labour MPS has criticized the new tax policy on vapes, saying that the price of vapes is expected to rise by 267%, which will make the UK one of the highest-taxed countries in Europe.

Labour MP Mary Glindon has accused the finance minister of raising taxes on vapes, warning that it will hinder efforts to quit smoking.

The lawmakers said the tax increase, set to take effect in October 2026, was “too high to afford” and would “hurt working people who rely on vapes.” According to reports, the price of vapes and oils is expected to rise by 267% due to the government’s proposal.

During the budget debate in the House of Commons. The MP who chairs the cross-party parliamentary group on vapes (APPG), said she had concerns about the policy. She argued that the Treasury secretary’s proposal to increase the tax on vapes and tobacco to 22p per milliliter would give the UK one of the highest rates in Europe.

She pointed out that there are still six million smokers in the UK who have not switched to vapes, and that a tax on vapes now would only interfere with these smokers quitting. In addition, she said, the tax proposal would affect working people throughout the Northeast who rely on vapes to get rid of tobacco.

  • “At present, many shops sell reusable e-vape for 99p, and the Treasury secretary’s proposal would see the price rise by 267% to $3.64.”
  • The government has been seeking to address this with the Tobacco and vape Act, and “access to vape fluid is not a reason for youth vaping.”
