For people with high blood pressure, choosing what goes into the body carefully is very important. Even certain types of food can exacerbate an already troubling problem. We know that smoking also causes high blood pressure, but what about vapes? Is smoke tar the only cause of this health problem? Or is there something else going on?
If you have high blood pressure, is vaping appropriate?
Like many things in the vape field, this research is still in its infancy. Most of the research on smoke tar and high blood pressure has been on the health of smokers. There is less research on the effects of tobacco on vapes, but the outlook is optimistic.
After patients switched to vapes, unhealthy blood pressure levels did drop significantly. But does this mean vapes are harmless for blood pressure? This is not the case. It’s better than tobacco, but the tar itself does constrict blood vessels and raise blood pressure.
Should I start using vapes if I have high blood pressure?
The answer to this question is different. Suppose you smoke now, most likely, of course. Going from tobacco to vapes will improve your heart health. There is a caveat though, and that is that smoke tar does affect your heart system. Smoke tar itself doesn’t cause as much damage as tobacco, but it’s there.
However, if you suffer from high blood pressure and do not currently smoke, then you should consider whether adding nicotine from vapes to your system is a good idea. Certainly not as bad as tobacco, but it’s not clear how safe nicotine is for people with high blood pressure who don’t currently smoke.
So what should I conclude?
Without scientific research, using volatile tar to quit smoking may reduce the amount of tar and toxins the body absorbs, but does not make accurate health claims.
Compared to using simulated tobacco, vape users can adjust their intake of smoke tar more easily. This means that even if your ingestion of smoke tar is damaging your blood pressure, you can simply reduce your intake until you reach a heart-healthy comfort level. Tobacco simply does not have that option. All things being equal, vapes are (probably) a safer and healthier option.
Personally, my heart and respiratory health did improve very quickly after I switched to vapes. My systolic pressure is down. As the study says, I feel like I have a lot more energy than when I smoke regularly.
When adding compounds to your body, be careful and do your research. Smoke tar may not be good for heart health. However, the harm of nicotine can be greatly reduced compared to tobacco, and this is where smoke tar comes into play.
