The Bulgarian parliament has adjusted its vape ban proposal, shifting its focus to banning only single-use vape products. The European Vape Industry Association has warned that this could lead to a doubling of smuggling activities.
According to Btvnovinite reported on February 25. The proposal for a total ban on vapes passed by the Bulgarian Parliament on first reading has changed, and the focus of the current discussion has changed to banning only disposable vape products.
During a roundtable discussion at the national conference, officials reviewed the proposed amendments to the Tobacco Products Law. The proposal includes a ban on flavored vapes, as well as proposals to expand the authority of regulators.
Kostadin Angelov, chairman of the National Parliament’s health committee, said: “Our main goal is to achieve an effective national ban on vapes. However, we realize that if it is implemented in the current way, it may take two or three years to notify the bill, so there will be no change to the country in the short term.”
The European vape Industry Association warned that “if single-use vapes are banned now, the proportion of smuggling will increase by at least two to three times.” If the flavoring in vapes is banned, the smuggling rate will increase five to six times.”
