“Pressured” by politics and public opinion

Under current South Korean law, chemically synthesized tobacco tar products are not classified as “cigarettes” and are therefore not affected by the ban on online sales. Considering political and public pressure, bat decided to abandon online sales, arguing that it could “use a regulatory blind spot.” Since cigarette control of synthetic nicotine will soon be included in legal discussions, it is difficult for bats to benefit from online sales in the long term.
A South Korean Health and Welfare Ministry official predicted that the results of the study will be released by the end of the year, and legislative discussions will officially start next year.
In addition, convenience stores are also excluded from the sales network of BAT synthetic nicotine products. BAT said it had “no initial plans to sell through convenience stores,” and recently reported that “the convenience store industry refused to enter the proposal.”
