An Australian city has launched a recycling pilot program, which encourages residents to dispose of discarded vapes in designated locations and recycle their valuable materials to deal with the rising problem of vape waste.
Key points:
1. Hobson’s Bay City Council in Australia has launched a pilot vape-recycling program that will last until April 17.
2. In view of the health and environmental problems of vapes in the community, the pilot will be implemented in designated locations.
3. The City Council called on residents to actively participate in the pilot to raise public awareness of environmental protection.
According to Miragenews, on March 31, Hobson’s Bay City Council in Australia launched a pilot vape recycling program aimed at reducing its environmental impact.
The City Council is encouraging residents who use vapes to safely dispose of them at the Altona Library or Newport Community Centre. The pilot program will run until April 17.
According to Clean Australia’s Waste report, improper disposal of vapes is on the rise across the country. In 2024, more than 30% of survey sites found vape waste, an increase of nearly 8% compared to 2023.
The pilot program aims to provide clear treatment guidelines while recovering valuable materials from equipment, including copper, plastics and metals.
According to Hobson Bay Mayor Daria Kellander,
- “Vapes have become an ongoing problem in the community and their disposal is just one of many concerns. This pilot provides an opportunity for community members to dispose of vapes safely and without bias.”
