In a joint law enforcement operation, a county in the United Kingdom investigated the sale of illegal vapes and tobacco in several towns and cities. Since the beginning of the year, more than 8,500 illegal vapes and nearly 26,000 illegal tobacco have been seized.
As reported by Talking Retail on November 11. Cambridge County Council found the sale of illegal vapes and cigarettes in shops in three different towns during a joint enforcement operation.
Since January, these combined enforcement efforts have led to the discovery of more than 8,500 illegal vapes and nearly 26,000 illicit cigarettes in Cambridge County. In July, Trading Standards sent more than two-thirds in illegal vapes to specialized recycling facilities for processing.
The problems include the fact that the liquid storage tank capacity of these vapes is illegal in the UK and is incorrectly labeled as a commodity that does not contain tobacco tar.
Peter Gell, director of county council services, said,
- “These sustained and targeted enforcement actions send a clear message to the stores offering these goods and the planned criminal gangs behind them that this will not be tolerated.” We are committed to taking strong action against any crime we find.”
- “The level of intelligence we receive from the public and local law-abiding businesses also shows the local attitude to these crimes. They don’t want these crimes in their communities, and we will continue to fight them on their behalf.”
