According to Response Source According to a Sept. 12 report, hundreds of independent vape stores in the U.K. will use the innovative AI technology program. The app reportedly provides automated, highly accurate facial age estimates, eliminating guesswork from age checks and reducing the risk of fines for violations. These fines can be as high as $1,500.

Advocacy team OVA and Privatel SA, a U.K.-based security technology company, have partnered to provide private enterprises with the AgeAI age estimation system. The company says the AgeAI system is completely anonymous, does not transmit or store images, and is certified under the UK’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Its highly accurate age estimation feature helps to prevent high fines, reduce unnecessary ID checks for adults, protect store staff, and reduce the risk of conflicts.

James Van Aalst, OVA, said.

  • “We want to be proactive in ensuring that our members are doing their best to prevent the sale of vapes to minors. Privately AgeAI is the ideal solution for our industry. Our customized version of AgeAI is an industry-leading version designed specifically for vape retailers. It pays very quickly, greatly reduces friction between employees and customers, and is easy to set up.AgeAI also automatically “denies enrollment,” making compliance monitoring easier for stores.”

Reduce the risk of e-cigarette retail violations

AgeAI has also received approvals from Peterborough City Council, including EAL3 certification and UK GDPR compliance testing, which is still underway in Europe and the US.

Privately Deepak Tewari, SA CEO (Deepak Tewari) said:

  • “The vape industry is currently highly fragmented and under scrutiny and there is an urgent need to crack down on sales to minors. Ova members can now rest assured that they have an automated, accurate, and fast solution, and store staff can avoid conflicts arising from the need to ID or reject customers.”
  • “Automated age verification is the first step in enabling online safety and providing an age-appropriate user experience. Currently, minors have easy access to adult content, gambling sites, or limited purchases of goods such as vapes, vapes, alcohol and tobacco. This can only happen with two clicks on the Internet, but at brick-and-mortar retail stores, ID checks, and ID counterfeiting will continue to cause friction. Automation is an effective means of solving this problem. Our technology is suitable for general use scenarios – both online and offline.”
